Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Division One round-up – Saturday, August 16

CAMBORNE need just 15 points from their final two games to secure an instant return to the ECB Cornwall Premier League following a 174-run victory at bottom side St Erme.

They were in trouble at 45-3 before Sri Lankan Danuka Dilshan (65) and Liam Weeks added 110.

Weeks (103no) then dominated, bringing up his century with a towering six as they reached an imposing 272-5. He added 109 with Jacob MacDonald (41no). Spinners Rakesh Seecharan (0-28) and Spencer Wilcock (2-24) gave little away.

In reply, the hosts slipped to 26-5 and although Tom Bunt (23) and Seecharan (28) delayed the inevitable, they were all out for 98. Dilshan took 4-20.

Camborne’s nearest challengers Beacon were beaten by one wicket at home to Perranporth who continue to impress.

Beacon struggled to 113-7 in the 37th over with only Sam James (37) and Jordan Thomas (22) getting going, however an unbroken 75-run stand between Gareth Mankee (33no) and James Gool (35no) gave them a chance. Tyler Murrell claimed 3-25.

The visitors ground out a superb win led by James Hall’s 55 not out.

He came to the wicket at 70-4 but found useful help from Murrell (17) and Rhys Evans (14), although they needed a 24-run stand between Hall and last man Jake Brothers (2no). Jordan Thomas (3-19) and Ben James (4-32) shared seven.

St Austell Seconds produced a superb home victory over mid-table Newquay to put Roche back into the drop zone.

Newquay were sent in at Wheal Eliza and were going well at 48-1 before Tommy Rodda (26) edged Jack Mallet (2-16) behind.

From there on wickets fell at regular intervals with James Carter taking 3-20 as Newquay were all out for just 126, 61 of which came from number three Adam Cocking.

Carter (25) then opened the batting and added 45 with Archie Connolly (26), but despite losing two wickets the Saints reached 78-2.

Connolly and Ryan Bennetts (22) both departed to Toby Chillingworth (2-30) and Joe Crane (4-40) respectively before Alfie Rhodes (2-7) reduced the hosts to 113-8.

But Henry Johnson (10no) and Jack Carter (4no) held their nerve to move six points clear of Roche.

They had Paul in big trouble at 76-7 before Will Trenoweth (45), Damon Nicholls (30) and Jago Hills (15no) got them up to 162 all out. Stewart May (3-22) and Oscar Green (2-20) shared five wickets.

Michael Fitchett then produced a superb spell of 7-28 to demolish the visitors as they were bundled out for just 89, nobody making more than James Hunkin’s 24.

Hayle closed the gap on Beacon as they thrashed Falmouth by 182 runs.

Kiwi Nate Wiggins’ 122 was the backbone of their 307-4 which included half centuries from Tom Sharp (55) and Dan Lello (75).

Lello (2-42) and brother Matt (2-13) then did the early damage before spinners Wiggins (3-28) and Max Jenkin (3-41) worked their way through the rest.
