THE 2025 Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League season came to its end on Saturday with six county finals across the Duchy.
The Division Two showpiece was between East winners St Blazey and West champions Stithians at Lanhydrock.
Blazey were sent in and made 200-8 from their 45 overs.
They lost key man Rory Dixon early on, lbw to former county seamer Glyn Furnival (2-31) for just seven.
The dangerous Matt Bennetts made 27 and Josh Carne a steady 28, but it was South African Ruhann Brenner’s 53 that gave them a chance helped by cameos from Ben Griffiths (23) and Andrew Thomas (15no). Ryan Mitchell took 3-43.
Stithians openers Ryan Burley and Simon Danby added 72, and although Blazey plugged away which included Dixon dismissing Burley and key man Ryan Edwards in successive balls, Stithians were seemingly cruising to victory at 140-3.
But once Callum Martin (25) and Danby (86) departed to the excellent Nithin Gowda (1-18 off 9) and Dixon (3-42 off 9) respectively, Stithians collapsed to 189-9.
Last man Mark Rowe struck six off two balls from Brenner (3-46), and Andrew Lean five off the first two balls of the last over bowled by Angus Harley (2-41), but Blazey’s never-say-die attitude shone through in front of a disbelieving crowd.
Harley took it to the last ball, Rowe could only spoon it towards cover, allowing Griffiths to run around to his right and complete the catch, giving Blazey victory on wickets lost.
The Division Three crown was won by Menheniot-Looe as they edged out West champions Ludgvan by two wickets at St Stephen.
Ludgvan were sent in to bat and mustered 190-9 from their 45 overs.
They lost key man Scott Stevens for just five, but recovered as John Hosking (23), Dave Legge (46) and Kyle Stevens (31) got in.
But from 104-2 they lost wickets at regular intervals with only Harry Payne (25) making much impression. Giles Francis (3-38) and Alex Caddy (2-20) shared five wickets.
Menheniot, who were without Australian overseas Findlay Farrell, looked in huge trouble at 129-7.
But Alex Caddy’s remarkable onslaught, where he finished 50 not out from just 41 balls ensured a famous Menheniot victory.
Elsewhere, off-spinner Matt Jacka took 5-20 as Rosudgeon won the Division Four final by seven wickets against St Blazey Seconds side at Mount Hawke and Porthtowan.
Blazey were dismissed for just 73 before Jeremy Edwards, who had earlier taken 4-21, made 25 in the seven-wicket victory.
Wadebridge Thirds took on Troon at St Minver in the Division Five decider.
Shane Richards took 3-21 as Wadebridge slipped to 43-5 before Rob Centini’s 72, coupled with StuartParkyn’s 29 got them to 191-9.
That proved more than enough as Troon were 66 all out as Jack Gill (3-13) and Sam Gerry (3-17) shared six wickets.
Ludgvan Seconds saw off Bugle by 49 runs at Constantine in the Division Six final.
They made 210-8 with Dan Cooke (56no), Sam Edwards (39) and Ryan Irvine (37) in the runs, before Sam Capstick’s 5-49 saw them home. Nathan Toms made 49.
The Division Seven final was won by Perranporth Thirds by two wickets against St Just Fourths at St Gluvias.
Scott May’s 90 helped St Just reach 144-9 as Molly Kerry took 6-36.
The Pilchards were cruising at 75-1, and although Jessica May took 3-20, they held their nerve, helped by Jeremy Bradley’s 57.
