Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Division One round-up – Saturday, August 2

NEIGHBOURS Beacon and Camborne warmed up for their crunch clash on Saturday with emphatic victories.

Champions Beacon are two points clear at the top after a 214-run success over strugglers Roche who saw Ryan Clark take 4-44 as Beacon slipped to 100-5.

However, the hosts rallied to 290-9 thanks to a 75-ball century from Callum Edgcombe (100) who struck eight fours and five sixes in his knock as he found support from Joe Tunnicliffe (28) and latterly Dan Eathorne (14) and Gareth Mankee (18no). James Hunkin (3-42 off 5) got some late reward.

Mankee then took 6-26 as Roche lasted just 15.5 overs, with nobody making more than Liam Philips’ 19.

Camborne dismissed Falmouth for just 21 at the Hine Downing Oval.

Sri Lankan Danuka Dilshan took 6-10 and Dan Hocking 4-10. Isaac Hurtel-Hymans’ eight was the best.

Earlier in the day, forties from skipper Alfie MacDonald (40) and Piran Moyle (47) helped the visitors rally to 219 all out, that after Josh Fontana (33), Dilshan (26) and Liam Weeks (25) had got themselves in. Hayden Ayres (3-45) and Adrian Noott (4-34) shared seven while Callum Stephens (1-21) gave little away.

Bottom side St Erme lost by one wicket to mid-table Newquay, in the main thanks to a brilliant 91 from visiting skipper Adam Cocking.

After he departed with 10 still required, the last wicket pairing of Jack Howarth (14no) and Jack Crichton (1no) held their nerve as West Indian left-arm spinner Rakesh Seecharan took 5-30. Cocking shared a crucial seventh wicket stand of 63 with Robert Burton (17) having seen his side slip to 96-6.

Earlier, the home side made 175 all out in just 37.1 overs.

Opener Kyle Van Rooyen smacked 75 from just 55 and although Spencer Wilcock and Daniel Foulds made twenties, visiting spinners Toby Chillingworth (3-20) and Joe Crane (4-51) shared seven.

St Erme are 15 points adrift of third bottom St Austell Seconds who were comfortably beaten by visiting Paul at Wheal Eliza.

The hosts were on top with the visitors 61-5 in the main thanks to Matt Lloyd (3-31) and a miserly spell from skipper Tom Rosevear (1-15 off 10), but the West Cornwall outfit fought back courtesy of Matthew Skewes (47), Callum Donnelly (30) and Damon Nicholls (19) before they lost their last four wickets for just four runs, three of which fell to Nick Matthews (3-3 off 2).

But that was more than enough as nobody bar opener Archie Connolly (26) passed twenty as they were 105 all out.

Seamers Nicholls and Michael Fitchett did the early work by sharing five, before spinners Skewes (1-9 off 10) and Bowden (3-19) moved them 20 points clear of Roche.

Perranporth remain fourth after an impressive three-wicket success at third-placed Hayle.

Louis Rudin led the way with 3-16 as Hayle were dismissed for just 128.

Thirties from Bryn Evans (37) and Tom Bradburn (31) took the Pilchards to 71-1 and although Kiwi Nate Wiggins was superb for his 5-33 from 10 overs, Theo Gayton’s unbeaten 30 got the job done.
