Saltash United 5 Wadebridge Town 4

Adam Carter completed his hat-trick two minutes from time to snatch victory for Saltash in a dramatic Cornwall Senior Cup quarter-final at the Waterways Stadium.

Western League leaders Saltash trailed 4-3 to South West Peninsula League premier west title chasers Wadebridge with eight minutes left of a pulsating tie.

Carter then equalised with a close range header from a corner and was in the right position to fire the ball into the net in the 88th minute.

It was joy for the Ashes, who had been 2-0 up after 16 minutes and 4-3 down before half-time to a Wadebridge side who produced a top performance in front of a crowd of 104.

Harrison Davis broke the deadlock in the 11th minute and five minutes later Carter opened his account to give Saltash a dream start.

But the Bridgers hit back with two goals in five minutes from Tom Shepherd and an Aaron Dilley free kick to make the score 2-2 after 23 minutes.

Skipper Dave Barker put the Ashes ahead once more from a 30th minute penalty but Wadebridge continued to carve Saltash's defence apart and two goals in three minutes had them ahead for the first time.

Jacob Rowe equalised in the 33rd minute and Shepherd, with his second goal of the game, made it 4-3 after 35 minutes.

Saltash had the better of the second half but didn't look like retrieving the tie, especially after Barker missed a 75th minute penalty.

But then came Carter to break Wadebridge's hearts and book Saltash's place in the semi-finals alongside Liskeard Athletic, Helston Athletic and Wendron United.

SWPL leaders Wendron needed extra time to see off a gallant Penzance at Penlee Park with two goals from Josh Wood, in the 93rd and 104th minute.

The home side gave as good as they got in an entertaining first half but as the game wore on, Wendron piled on the pressure but were unable to find a way through a determined Magpies back line.
