SINCE my election as Cornwall councillor for Fowey, Tywardreath and Par, I’ve been immersed in council training, a demanding but necessary start. Despite this, I’ve prioritised weekend meetings with constituents to hear their concerns directly.

Two issues stand out: rising anti-social behaviour (ASB) and criminal damage in Par, and the Hendra Court planning application.

The police response to ASB has been disappointing, though patrols have begun. I’ve secured a meeting with police representatives on July 23 to find solutions and I am pushing for an earlier discussion. I’ve also met the St Andrews Road Nature Reserve chairman and Par Running Track manager to address ongoing ASB.

On Hendra Court, I’ve held several meetings with affected residents to understand their views.

Other local matters include Tywardreath Hill’s road closure, where, despite legal hurdles being cleared, I’m still chasing a confirmed repair date.

Overgrown foliage on Polmear Road, reported as blocking the walkway, was cut back after my intervention, though the work was sub-par and may need further action.

At Tywardreath Cemetery, concerns about overgrown grass risking elderly visitors were addressed, after my visit confirmed recent maintenance, though the quality could improve.

A non-functioning speed sign in Polmear, possibly vandalised, was reported to the highways department.

A fallen tree blocking a St Andrews Road-Treesmill footpath was promptly cleared after my report on June 30.

Finally, safety concerns for horseriders in Penpillick and Treesmill led me to schedule a signage review.

I’m committed to serving our community, tackling these issues with determination to improve life in Fowey, Tywardreath and Par.

Ian Wilson is the Reform UK Cornwall councillor for Fowey, Tywardreath and Par.
