THE new leader of Cornwall Council, Cllr Leigh Frost, announced his 10-strong cabinet at the beginning of June.
As with other elected members, I am already making representations to the portfolio holders on a range of strategic and local issues. These include planning policy, highway matters and my request for a review of the recent night-time switch-off of streetlights in St Enoder parish.
I am also pleased to have been elected as the chairman of the constitution and governance committee. It would be accurate to say that I am the longest-serving member of the committee and I hope that I will be able to use my experience to take forward our work programme positively. The vice-chairman is St Austell’s Cllr Jordan Rowse and I know we will work well together.
Some good news. The legal work to transfer a number of small play areas/open spaces from Cornwall Council to St Enoder Parish Council, and the Hall Road Play Area to St Dennis Parish Council, has commenced. I am heavily engaged in this work and look forward to improvements to the areas in question.
By the time that this report has been published, Cornish Lithium will have submitted the scoping report for their project to the government’s planning inspectorate. This will be the first formal part of their planning application and I hope to find out further information in the coming days.
As I noted last month, officers at the unitary authority are recommending that the planning application for a solar farm in St Dennis parish is approved. It will be considered at a meeting of the strategic planning committee on July 10 and I will be there, presenting local views.
