Devon Claxton (Green, Tregolls)
I have lived relatively close to Tremorvah Playing Field for 15 years now, and have used it a fair bit in that time. While it is a fine space enjoyed by many in the local community, it cannot be denied the field faces several challenges that should be addressed.
For example, the bonfire site seems to remain all year round, surrounded by a grey metal fence. This doesn't look good, and provides problems for those who use the field for ball games as it increases the risk of property loss.
The play area itself deserves some praise; the equipment has held up well over the years. However, one side of the play area feels underutilised; that all the play equipment is confined to one relatively small space is not conducive to the sense of adventure playgrounds should have.
It could also do with more benches (as could the park as a whole); and some parents have requested the installation of a gate at the entrance to prevent young children from escaping.
Possibly the most glaring problem with Tremorvah Field is the patch of gravel in one corner, home to a few planters and a shipping container. This is not aesthetically pleasing, and should be rectified. This space could be used to give a more even spread of play equipment, or as a community space to address the lack of opportunities in the local area.
The council should also contact Archbishop Benson school and ask the pupils to do a survey regarding the future of the park. After all, children take well to being listened to and not patronised.
Another way the park could be improved is through better publicity of the Friends Of Tremorvah Field group; there is little evidence it exists, preventing people in the local community from making the contributions they want to.
