Towns across West Cornwall will switch on their Christmas lights over the next week.
In Camborne, the town band will begin the stage entertainment in Commercial Square at 1pm tomorrow [Saturday, November 22], followed by performances from CD Kids, Keur Arwodha Kemeneth and Makasong, Holman’s Choir, TR14ers, The Goonbillys, The Ukuhayles and Redruth Carol Choir. Hotchpotch stilt walkers will stroll around town throughout the afternoon.
Kehelland Shop will host Father Christmas with cheeky elves Cam and Bronne from 2pm to 4.30pm, and Scallywags Café will run a Christmas Fair from 3pm to 6pm, while Tyacks Hotel offers warming drinks and mince pies with Santa’s elves and reindeer.
The light switch-on itself will take place at 5pm. The event has been organised by BID Camborne, with generous financial support from Camborne Town Council and sponsors including RG Kellow, Macsalvors Plant Hire, Speedy Hire, Arcadia Tree Care, AR Newport Transport, Cormac, Apollo Bingo and Firecrest.
BID Camborne manager Anna Pascoe said: “This year’s theme is Merry and Bright, and Lamps and Tubes Illuminations have done us proud with their street and tree lighting. Local businesses are looking splendid too.”
Truro’s city centre Christmas lights come on automatically tomorrow afternoon to coincide with the first day of the Christmas markets in Lemon Quay and Boscawen Street.
Falmouth's switch-on will take place on Thursday, November 27 and promises to be its biggest to date. Join Cornwall Dance School at 5pm on Events Square, and watch as 14 festive tractors lead the Christmas parade, makes their way through town to The Moor as the town’s schoolchildren perform Christmas carols.

The community has chosen community stalwart Danny Trick to push the button at 7pm. Danny has helped to re-energise Falmouth Rugby Club and revive Falmouth’s Carnival, as well as volunteering extensively with the Falmouth Marine Band. The switch-on will be followed by The Oggymen.
Penzance Christmas lights will be switched on at 5.15pm on Saturday 29th November 29, with festivities all day throughout the town.
