Culture-hungry visitors were served up an artistic treat in the former Frankie & Benny’s restaurant in St Austell at the weekend.
The aptly-named Weird exhibition featured some off the hottest artisan talent in Cornwall including the Dark Artist, aka Caroline Wallis, Colin A May, Stephen James Beer, Christophe Szpajdel, Steven Cull, Haytham Douqa, Linda Mary Jones, Tina Taylor, Eudyptula and Neil Williams.
The pop-up exhibition was the latest event organised jointly by Caroline Wallis and Tina Taylor as part of the Pop Up Art St Austell collective.
From the self-portrait by Neil Williams through to the spare parts technical mosaics by Haytham Douqa, this was an eclectic exhibition displaying original and diverse works spanning a range of genres.
Co-organiser Tina explained: “It’s just brilliant to breathe life back into these empty units and we are eternally grateful to White River Place for allowing us to stage it today.
“Both myself and Caroline have been thrilled with the turnout and we would like to thank all of the artists for coming along today and showing the diverse culture that exists right here in St Austell.”
Caroline said: “We have brought together all the art that artists may think, ‘oh no, I’d best not exhibit that one - it’s too weird!’ We believe this exhibition is what is needed right now to break the mould and to shake St Austell up a bit.”
