A scheme that aims to raise the profile of social care and highlight the work carried out by the care workforce is staging a recruitment event in Newquay.

Proud to Care Cornwall is holding the event for people looking for work in the care industry, which will take place at the Hotel Victoria on Tuesday, 10 October between 10am and 5pm.

People can book a place or simply drop in at any time in the day.

Jackie Villanueva attended a similar event in Penzance earlier in the year and was offered a position as support worker.

She said: “The first people I spoke to were Bluebird.

“I told them what I was after, and they interviewed me. They offered me a job straight away, but I went away to think about it.

“There was no pressure at all and after a few days I decided to accept the role.

“I work part time and the lady I look after is lovely, it’s like being with your family. To know that you’re making a difference to somebody’s life, people are indoors, they’re lonely, that’s where I make a difference I think.”

Cllr Andy Virr, Cornwall Council cabinet member for adults and public health said: “This is another fantastic opportunity to find out more about working in Cornwall’s care sector and become part of a community of workers who make a huge difference to people’s lives.

“It’s great to hear from Jackie about her experiences and we’re grateful to her and the many others who do what she does, bringing joy to people and giving them the support they need to live an independent life.”

People can find out more about the event by visiting the Proud to Care website.

There will be another event held in Liskeard on Thursday, November 2 at Elliot House Hotel between 10am and 5pm.
