TRURO is celebrating a remarkable achievement following the South West in Bloom 2025 awards presentation, which was held at the Riviera Centre in Torquay.
The city won multiple awards, including the prestigious overall title Champion of Champions – recognising Truro as one of the finest floral and environmentally conscious communities in the region.
From the immaculate planting at Boscawen Park to the outstanding floral displays at Tregolls Manor, Truro’s horticultural efforts were praised for being of “the highest standard”.
Judges were impressed by the city's dedication to environmental awareness, heritage, management and biodiversity – including displays at Truro Community Library and the Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery, but especially the work at Daubuz Moor, which was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) National Award for Wildlife Management.
The transformation of sites like Sunny Corner through the RHS ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ volunteer initiative showcased community passion, restoration skills and a sense of strong civic pride.
Truro in Bloom chairman Godfrey Mortimer and his wife Peggy were given a Lifetime Achievement award for their tireless work and longstanding commitment to the group and the city.
Tregolls Manor received a Gold award in the Business, Tourism and Leisure Awards and the Amberol Trophy for the Best Business Display in the South West.
The Sargent Trophy recognised Truro’s outstanding effort and dedication in the main competition category.
These achievements reflect the collective efforts of Truro in Bloom, Truro City Council’s Parks and Gardens department, Biffa, Truro BID, the Friends of Daubuz Moor and the many local community groups and volunteers who work all year round to make Truro a vibrant, green and welcoming city for all.
Richard Budge, Truro City Council’s Parks and Amenities Officer, said he was “overwhelmingly proud” of all those involved in making Truro “such a wonderful place to live, work, and visit”.
He added: “Everyone's hard work has paid off, and while it's nice to win accolades, this effort is put in for the people who live and work in Truro, along with the visitors.”

City mayor Cllr Chris Wells attended the awards presentation, along with staff from Truro City Council’s parks department and Truro in Bloom committee members.
The South West in Bloom judging panel praised Truro’s “sheer impact” of horticultural features, its “superb community involvement”, and “excellence in promoting environmental awareness.”
Alun Jones, Truro BID manager, said: “On behalf of the resident Truro businesses, Truro BID is delighted to see that Truro has won several category titles at the regional South West in Bloom competition. This is a very positive statement for the city of Truro and a recognition of all the hard work and funding that is invested into the city-wide floral displays. This positive achievement will definitely support our visitor appeal.
“Well done and congratulations to all involved, including the various teams that work tirelessly in keeping the city centre looking clean, tidy, attractive and safe, along with funding support from the Truro businesses.”
