THE name of Truro’s next mayor has been announced.

In her final role as mayor for 2024/25, Cllr Carol Swain oversaw a secret ballot in which the new city mayor was revealed.

Cllr Chris Wells (Conservative) will now take on the mantle of chairing the council and representing the city.

Cllrs Wells narrowly lost his seat on Cornwall Council in a three-way contest with the Liberal Democrats and Reform.

Taking his seat for the first time, Cllr Wells said: “It’s an office I’ve delayed for many years but can now give the time it deserves.”

Cllr Loic Rich was subsequently elected deputy mayor.

This follows early news that the former deputy mayor, Sam Rabey, had been banned from the city’s cathedral and its grounds due to safeguarding concerns.
