Penzance’s traditional St Piran Furry Dance took place on Tuesday to a sea of flying flags, music and dancing in the streets. 

The event saw school children, musicians and local organisations dancing the ‘Furry’ through Causewayhead before heading to sing at Morrab Gardens. Those in the parade were accompanied by the mayor of Penzance Stephen Reynolds and town crier Phil Northcott.

The schools that took part were: Alverton Primary School, Newlyn School, Pensans Primary, St Mary's C of E Primary School, St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Gulval School, Ludgvan School, Humphry Davy School, Mounts Bay Academy, St Hilary School, Marazion School, Heamoor School, Trythall Community Primary School, Madron Daniel C of E School, Mousehole School. 

Among the musicians taking part in the parade were The Golowan Band, along with Paull Callow who led the singing for the ‘Trelawny Shout’ at Morrab. The event was organised by St Piran in Penwith with grant funding from Penzance Council.

Penzance’s St Piran’s Day festivities also saw a special Cornish concert at St John’s Hall take place the night before the big day.  Performing that night were St Piran’s School Choir and Penzance Guizers who provided the dancing.
