A DIGITAL postcard from Newquay has been sent to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as part of the town’s bid to be named UK Town of Culture.
Newquay Town Council is inviting residents, businesses and visitors to explore and share its newly released digital postcard as part of the bid.
The postcard is now live on the official UK Town of Culture Digital Map, where towns from across the country are presenting their entries.
Designed to capture the spirit of the town, Newquay’s postcard highlights its distinctive coastal identity, from its world-famous surf and coastline to its festivals, markets, food scene and growing creative community. It offers a snapshot of the culture that exists year round and the energy shaping Newquay today.
The submission forms part of the wider bid led by Newquay Town Council and Newquay BID, working with local partners to celebrate the town’s cultural offer and community activity. The process is still at an early stage, with further opportunities for wider involvement expected if Newquay progresses in the competition.
The national campaign will be celebrated online on Thursday, July 2, with towns across the UK sharing their postcards and taking part using the hashtag #UKTownofCulture.
People are encouraged to view and share Newquay’s postcard to help showcase the town on a national platform and celebrate everything that makes it unique.
The national programme aims to support towns in celebrating their identity and delivering accessible cultural events for residents and visitors.
The UK Town of Culture competition will award funding to deliver a cultural programme during 2028.
If successful, Newquay would receive investment to support a wide range of activity shaped by the town’s communities and organisations. Newquay Town Council and Newquay BID are working closely with a small group of partners, including Newquay Town Team.
