PREPARATIONS are well underway to mark Remembrance Sunday (November 9) in St Ives.
St Ives Town Council have confirmed that two services and a parade will be taking place in the town to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
On Remembrance Sunday, services will be held at St Ia Church, St Ives and St Uny Church in Lelant. The parade which is organised by the St Ives Royal British Legion, will also be taking place on November 9.
Details of the parade and service in St Ives are as follows:
- 10.40am: The Royal British Legion and other organisations will assemble at The Guildhall, St Ives.
- 10.50am: The Parade will proceed to the War Memorial via Tregenna Place and High Street.
- 11am: Following the two minutes silence, wreaths will be laid - The Mayoral Wreath, followed by the Royal British Legion and any others.
- 11.15am: The Parade will leave the War Memorial and proceed to the parish church for the service.
- Following the conclusion of the proceedings, the parade will return to the Guildhall. At the Guildhall, the National Anthem will be played, and the parade dismissed.
On Remembrance Day (Tuesday, November 11), representatives from the Royal British Legion and the town council will congregate at the St Ives War Memorial at 10.50am. This will be followed by a two minutes silence at 11am.
Meanwhile, arrangements have also been made for a remembrance service at St Uny Church, Lelant on November 9.
Details are as follows:
- 9.25am: At the parish church, a vicar will conduct a service and preach the sermon. Deputy mayor, Cllr Ken Messenger, will read the lesson.
- 10am: Laying of wreaths at the 1914/18 and 1939/45 War Memorials within the church by Cllr Messenger and the vicar’s warden.
- 10.30am: The Service will end with the blessing, and the congregation will be asked to remain in their seats whilst the civic party leaves the church. The Assembly will proceed to the War Memorial.
- 11am: The laying of Wreaths – the Wreath on behalf of the council will be laid by Cllr Messenger, followed by the Royal British Legion and then all others.
