A NEWQUAY developer has served up new kit for the region’s top young tennis players to wear on court.

Legacy Properties sponsorship has funded smart matching hoodies for Cornwall’s under-8 county tennis team and their coaches at Newquay’s Heron Tennis Club, as well as branded t-shirts for all children attending county training sessions.

The contribution from the family owned developer is the first official backing for the under-eight squad, one of the youngest age categories in UK tennis competition.

The team, which represents the very best talent from clubs across Cornwall, travelled to Taunton in their new kit to compete in this year’s County Cup against rivals from Devon, Avon, Somerset and Dorset.

The team plays out of Heron Tennis Club in Newquay, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The club is situated close to communities where Legacy Properties is currently building new homes, including its latest sold-out development, The Grange, in Goonhavern.

The Newquay-based housebuilder has deep roots across both north and south Cornwall and is committed to nurturing young talent in the areas where it builds.

Nick Long, the managing director at Legacy Properties, said: “We believe in backing local talent and giving young people opportunities to grow - whether that’s through the homes we build or the communities we support. Seeing the Cornwall under-8 team kitted out and stepping onto the court with pride is exactly the kind of grassroots impact we want to be part of. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to supporting more youth initiatives across the region.”

Warren Nield, from Cornwall Lawn Tennis Association, commented: “Having Legacy Properties behind us this season has made a real difference. The kids loved receiving their team hoodies and wearing their county t-shirts to training – it’s brought a real sense of pride and togetherness. For players this young, feeling part of something special helps build confidence on and off the court. We’re incredibly grateful to Legacy for their support.”
