PERSONNEL at RAF St Mawgan are embarking on a trek dressed as food items to raise awareness about food poverty in Cornwall
The three-day 70-mile challenge will be raising funds for Newquay Foodbank.
The route sees an early departure from Newquay on Tuesday, March 17 heading out towards Newlyn East before continuing to Truro. The team will walk from Truro to Penryn and then on to Redruth during the second day.
The final day will see the walkers make their way from Redruth back to Newquay, completing the 70-mile challenge.
The team hopes to meet members of the public throughout its journey and hear local stories, and spark important conversations about the realities many individuals and families face.
The team is encouraging supporters to come out along the route to cheer them on, donate, and capture fun photos and video footage to help spread the word online and in the community.
Organisers hope the walk will help raise the profile of the issue of food poverty and inspire collective action.
A spokesperson for the team said: “Following the success of last year’s walk, the team is back with renewed determination and a new route that will take them through towns where the need for food support is particularly significant.
“This walk is about more than covering miles, it’s about standing with our community, raising awareness of a growing need, and doing something positive to support Newquay Foodbank.”
Anyone wishing to support the campaign can do so by donating via the team’s JustGiving page, sharing the story, or coming along the route to show their support.
