A SURF life saving club has been presented with the highest accolade a local voluntary group can receive in the UK.
Holywell Bay Surf Life Saving Club has received a King's Award for Voluntary Service, an MBE for volunteer groups.
Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall Edward Bolitho, ,the King's representative in Cornwall was on hand to present the award at the clubhouse on Thursday night.

Club chairman and secretary Steve and Becca Peck were invited to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party in May to meet King Charles, but this follow up visit allowed all club members to share in the celebration of winning the award.
Sir Edward explained that this is the second time a Surf Life Saving Club has won the accolade. The club was chosen due to the impact it has on young people's lives in the local community, with over 8,000 hours of time volunteered every year, and 10 per cent of local people taking part in some way.

During his visit Sir Edward was also invited to cut a ribbon to officially open the club's recently renovated headquarters. The new roof and improved facilities was made possible by fundraising locally.

Chairman Steve Peck said: "Over the spring, an essential new roof has been fitted to the club house along with other improvements including solar panels and better storage for kit and life saving equipment.
"This was made possible by generous donations of both time and money from club members and supporters in the area. The club house will now be water-tight for many years to come. Huge thanks to everyone who has helped along the way."
The club is now looking ahead to summer beach comps and working on fundraising. Much needed after the new roof expense.
