A SURF life saving club is helping to create a swell of goodwill after being donated £2,000.

Perranporth Surf Life Saving Club has been asked to 'pay it forward' by selecting another charity they believe deserves the next £2,000, which has created a ripple of giving across 25 organisations.

The club is one of five charities across the UK and Ireland chosen to kick off the initiative, which is part of Benefact Group's Movement for Good programme, which donates over £1-million to charities annually since 2019.

Every two weeks a new charity in the chain will be unveiled, each one handpicked by the one before it. All participating charities will be revealed by June 9.

Nigel Bowden, the secretary of Perranporth Surf Life Saving Club, said: "Our mission is to protect lives by training dedicated volunteer lifeguards and promoting vital water safety education. From our youngest members in the Nippers program to our experienced volunteers, we’re committed to building skills, confidence, and fitness in and around the water. Our team works tirelessly to patrol the beach, respond to emergencies, and share life-saving knowledge with the community and visitors.

"This grant will make a significant difference, enabling us to enhance our training, maintain essential rescue equipment, and continue providing a safe, supportive environment for all ages to grow, stay active, and enjoy the ocean safely."

The Benefact Group is a family of financial services businesses, including specialist insurer, Ecclesiastical, and the ethical investment firm EdenTree, that exist solely to give back. All available profits go to charity, distributed through initiatives like the Movement for Good Awards, which donates over £1-million a year to good causes.

Chris Pitt from the Benefact Group said: “Charities know their sector better than anyone. We’re excited to see where their insight leads and how this trust-based chain of giving plays out. It’s about community, collaboration, and curiosity – what happens when we give charities the reins?”
