The long spell of sub-zero temperatures had a sting in its tail on Saturday, with a multi-vehicle accident closing a stretch of the A38 between Liskeard and Trerulefoot in the morning.

The road, which was closed in both directions, re-opened at around noon.

National Highways South West said the incident near Liskeard involved five vehicles at one point.

"As far as we've been made aware, all minor injuries and all minor damage, but those incidents were caused by road conditions at the time being really quite icy."

Frozen pitches also led to a raft of cancellations with sports fixtures across the county affected.
