A Newquay singing group’s rousing performances have benefited a charity to the tune of £5,000.

Newquay Rowing Club Singers donated the money to Children’s Hospice South West.

The cash was collected in buckets at various venues the group has performed at over the past year.

The choir presented the cheque to Children’s Hospice South West representative Alice Merrett at Newquay Rowing Club on Sunday night.

Padtow Merrymakers, who contributed £100 to the total playing their accordions at events, performed on the night.

The Padstow trip boat Jubilee Queen contributed £600 toward the total after raising money throughout the year.

One of the fund-raising nights was during a performance by Newquay Rowing Club Singers at which Padstow Gin Company raised £150 selling their wares at the bow of the ship.

Phil Trebilcock from Newquay Rowing Club Singers said: “We have supported CHSW for 31 years and £5,000 is a record amount we have raised during a year, which we are very pleased about.”

Alice said: “We are blown away by the donation.

“Newquay Rowing Club Singers have done some amazing work over so many years.

“We care for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses and it is not just about medical care as it encompasses the whole family.

“We would not be able to do that without the support of communities like yourselves.”
