Newquay RNLI volunteers were launched to a suspected stroke victim who was onboard a small yacht off Fistral Beach.

The charity’s Atlantic 85 Lifeboat was scrambled to the incident one mile offshore on Tuesday, August 22 at 1.30pm.

A paramedic crew member was placed onboard the craft and made an assessment of the casualty who was subsequently medically evacuated from the yacht on to the Atlantic 85 with the crew maintaining casualty care observations on the journey back to Newquay harbour, where South West Ambulance Service were waiting with an ambulance.

The casualty climbed from the Atlantic 85 and walked to the ambulance paramedics and placed into their care and taken for further assessment and treatment.

Lifeboat Operations Manager, Gareth Horner said ‘The whole operation went as clockwork, an excellent immediate and accurate assessment was made, treatment initiated, and a rapid evacuation was achieved.

“This was the 11th call for Newquay volunteers in a week and weather conditions at the time of the incident were force two winds, excellent visibility and clear skies.

“In any coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
