Residents who want to see Bodmin’s popular carnival continue are being urged to attend a forthcoming meeting.

Bodmin Carnival will be staging its annual general meeting in Court Room Two at the Shire Hall on Tuesday, at 7pm. This will be followed by a planning meeting.

A new carnival committee needs to be formed to take the event forward as the present committee has decided to step down due to a lack of new blood helping out in recent years. Bodmin Carnival had to be cancelled last year after the committee failed to attract new members.

The committee has previously stated that unless they get new committee members on board the event could fold.

They have many people who offer to help out on the day but the committee needs more help throughout the year to organise the big occasion.

A spokesman for Bodmin Carnival said: “Bodmin Carnival, an event that has brought joy and excitement to the town for many years, is at a crossroads. The current committee of four volunteers has struggled to come to this decision but due to a lack of new committee members over the last seven years they will be stepping down.

“They have worked tirelessly to ensure the funds are in place for the next three years but this needs to be maintained. This leaves the future of the carnival uncertain this year and for the future, and the new, yet to be officially formed, committee is appealing to the people of Bodmin to come forward and offer their support. After a hiatus due to the pandemic, they are keen to ensure that the event continues in some form. That’s why they are calling upon the people of Bodmin to come forward and offer their support to make the carnival happen this year.

“The Bodmin Carnival is a celebration of the town’s people and an opportunity for individuals to showcase their creativity and personality. The event has brought together members of the community of all ages and backgrounds, and provided a platform for them to have fun and connect with each other.

“The committee has organised a meeting on March 7, where members of the community are invited to come and discuss the future of the carnival. The meeting is an opportunity for everyone to get involved and for individuals to find roles that suit their skills and personality.

“The carnival is an opportunity to celebrate the town and its people, and to connect with others in the community.

“The outgoing and potential committee is urging members of the community to get involved and offer their support, not just on the day but throughout the year with the organisation of this fabulous event.”
