RESIDENTS are being invited to ‘chip in’ to help the flowerbeds around Newquay thrive.

Newquay Town Council is staging its Christmas tree recycling scheme at South Fistral car park between Monday, January 5 and Monday, February 23.

The environmental team will take the Christmas trees to be chipped, and the mulch will be used to help retain soil moisture, suppress weeds and regulate soil temperature on the flowerbeds throughout the town.

Mayor Cllr Drew Creek said: “This I believe is the third year the town council is staging its Christmas tree recycling scheme at South Fistral car park.

“Each year huge numbers of Christmas trees are being recycled. Last year we had nearly 1,000 trees collected there and this year we hope to continue those numbers.

“The Christmas trees and then chipped and the used on the green spaces, which is better environmentally than burning them.”

A town council spokesperson added: “Recycle Your Christmas tree. Give it a second life.

“Drop off your tree and we’ll recycle it into woodchip for use in our open spaces and environmental projects.”
