Horrible weather failed to dampen spirits as RNLI Penlee hosted its New Year’s Day ‘Reindeer Run’ to help the charity’s volunteer crews to raise lifesaving funds.
The event started at 10am in heavy rain and participants ran from the Penlee lifeboat station in Newlyn across Penzance promenade to the Jubilee Pool and back.
There are 15 lifeboat stations on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the whole year across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and yes, while you were having Christmas dinner our lifeboat crews were holding their pagers in case they were needed by someone in need on the sea.
A spokesperson for Penlee RNLI said: “A huge thanks to the 65 entrants who took part in fund-raising to save lives at sea, supporting Penlee’s voluntary crews and especially those participants who dressed as reindeer – Santa would have been delighted at the size of the herd.”
