THE public toilets at Newquay’s skatepark have been closed down after being severely vandalised.

The infrastructure, fittings and electrics were damaged in the conveniences at Concrete Waves on Monday, September 22 between 5pm and 10pm.

The incident has been reported to the police and CCTV is being reviewed.

Newquay Town Council, which operates the public toilets, has decided to shut the facility until further notice due to the “scale of the destruction,” which will cost thousands of pounds to repair.

A spokesperson for the town council said: “We are extremely disappointed the toilets at the skatepark have been severely vandalised once again causing extensive, deliberate damage.

“There are broken electrics, damaged fittings and smashed infrastructure.

“This is not minor damage. This is criminal destruction of public property. Due to the scale of destruction, these facilities are now closed until further notice.

“We know this will inconvenience many people who use the park responsibly, but this level of reckless behaviour is completely unacceptable.

“Let’s be clear this vandalism is costing the taxpayer thousands of pounds.

“It’s damaging public property and ruining facilities for the entire community.

“We are currently reviewing CCTV footage and have reported the matter to the police. If anyone has any information, however minor it may seem, please come forward.

“Report directly to the town council or contact the police.

“Our parks belong to everyone. Let’s not let a few mindless individuals ruin them for all.”

The incident follows the public toilets at Narrowcliff also being vandalised.

A payment device was smashed at the facility sometime on Monday, September 15. Police are investigating the incident and CCTV footage is being checked.

A town council spokesperson said: “This kind of behaviour is deeply disappointing and undermines the hard work that goes into maintaining our public facilities.”
