Plans for a 100-bedroom Premier Inn hotel on a care home site in St Ives have reached the next stage.
Premier Inn announced in September that they were looking to open a hotel on the site of Trewidden Care Home.
The initial announcement sparked anger amongst some locals who voiced their concerns about the loss of a care home, the arrival of a chain hotel in the town, the planned location and how there is already enough holiday accommodation in the town.
But plans have now been submitted to Cornwall Council by Premier Inn’s parent company Whitbread.
The plans would see the demolition of the existing care home and erection of a hotel along with associated landscaping, car parking and associated infrastructure.
The planning application has already received written objections from residents and more than 100 people attended a public exhibition to view the plans and give feedback last year.
Whitebread’s say the plans are a £10 million investment and would create 30 permanent jobs.
People can view or comment on the plans on the Cornwall Council online planning register HERE. The planning number is PA22/11311.
