VISITORS will no longer be allowed inside a town-centre residential property in Newquay after it became a hive for antisocial behaviour (ASB), causing chaos to nearby residents.
A three-month partial closure order was granted at an address on East Street on October 15, making it an offence for anyone other than the named tenant to enter the premises.
It has been put in place following reports to the police of constant shouting, loud noise, suspected drug use and littering outside the address. There were also reports of gatherings where people would spill out of the property and drink on the street.
PS Simon Andrews, who worked to get the order, said: “I hope this sends a clear message that ASB will not be tolerated and that we are taking action in response to what people are reporting to us.
“This constant behaviour was causing real harm to the wellbeing of the community, so it was important we took action.
“We will continue to work closely in the area alongside the tenant and local residents to deter future offences.
“Thank you to everyone who came forward to report to us – your information was vital in our investigation.”
The closure order was granted at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court following an investigation by the local Neighbourhood Policing team and the Council’s ASB Caseworker.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson added: “If you are experiencing antisocial behaviour in your area, or would like to raise concerns with the police, please report them on our website. If a crime is taking place, call 999.
“If you have been affected by crime, please visit victimcare-dc.org to access support services and information on your rights and how to navigate the criminal justice system. You can also call Victim Support on 08 08 16 89 111 or Devon and Cornwall Police’s Victim Care Unit on 01392 475900.”
