PLANS have been given the green light to introduce a 20mph speed limit along parts of Nansledan following a public consultation being carried out.

The speed limit will be put in place on Stret Myghtern Arthur and Stret Euther Penndragon, as well as various residential side roads.

The majority of people who responded to the survey stated a 20mph speed limit would enhance the safety of pedestrians, but others raised concerns it would lead to extended journey times and driver frustration. A package of pedestrian improvement works is also being developed to further improve the safety.

Newquay Porth and Tretherras Cornwall councillor, Kevin Towill, said: “The majority of responses received were in support of the proposals to reduce the speed limit at Nansledan, with many respondents feeling a reduction in speed would enhance safety for pedestrians, in particular children and other vulnerable road users. Supporters viewed the change as vital to prevent a serious accident and to align with Nansledan’s vision of a safe, walkable community.

“Some objections were received from respondents who were concerned about extended journey times, driver frustration and the belief any benefits to safety and air quality remained unproven.

“Following discussion with stakeholders, it was decided to implement the scheme as advertised, resulting in a 20mph speed limit on Stret Myghtern Arthur and Stret Euther Penndragon, as well as various residential side roads. A package of pedestrian improvement works is also being developed to further improve the safety of all road users.

“Our works programme indicates construction will be carried out on site in October 2025. Please note any new speed restrictions will not come into effect until these have been completed.”

Make Nansledan Safer — Demand Urgent Action has been calling for three traffic light-controlled pedestrian crossings to be installed on the A3059 following concerns about safety since the route fully opened.
