SERVICE personnel based at RAF St Mawgan are primed to go into combat after taking part in an intensive training exercise.
They refreshed and refined essential skills including combat first aid, weapon handling, basic fieldcraft as well as guard and sentry duties in a step to sharpen operational readiness and reinforce core military competencies.
The operationally focused initiative, which utilised parts of the RAF St Mawgan estate, centred around delivering a rigorous program that blended classroom instruction with hands-on fieldcraft from tactical lectures and mission briefings to immersive field exercises.
The training aimed to push the boundaries of individual leadership, strengthen command capabilities and forge tighter team cohesion under pressure.
Corporal Kirsten MacPhee from the survival equipment section said: “The exercise highlight for me was the realism of the combat first aid stand, the initial shock of the stand allowed for confidence in the fight or flight mode. The skills learnt have enhanced my confidence under pressure.”

The exercise was designed to challenge and inspire, combining lectures, instructional periods and dynamic field scenarios that simulate real-world conditions. Personnel experienced a level of realism rarely achievable in a training environment following the support of specialist amputee actors.
Station Commander, Wing Commander Helen Simpson said: “This high intensity training is about more than skill refreshment, it’s about staying razor-sharp, mission-ready and united.
“The result is a force that’s not only proficient but primed for any operational challenge ahead.”
