Pentillie Park in Mevagissey has been given a community makeover after local youngsters contacted their councillor for help.

Children and parents joined Cornwall councillor James Mustoe on Saturday to transform the community space by painting the two largest pieces of equipment: the climbing frame and swings.

“This is probably one of the favourite things I’ve done in my nine years as councillor,” said Cllr Mustoe.

“Earlier this year, a number of children wrote to me asking if I could get Pentillie Park spruced up. I thought it would be a great idea to get them involved by deciding what colour to paint the equipment and then come out with their families and help me do it.”

“The result was another brilliant transformation, with the children having a direct say over the action they wanted to see and then taking part to help realise it themselves. Everyone involved did a brilliant job.

“One of the children said it was the ‘best day ever’, and seeing the genuine hard work and fun that was had by all, along with the great spirit of community shown, I find it hard to disagree!”

Cormac sanded the equipment down in August and supplied paint, brushes and other equipment. Adele Hemming supplied lunch and refreshments for all those who came out on the day.

Cllr Mustoe added that the swing chains and seats within the freshly painted frame will be replaced as soon as can be arranged.
