A secluded beach in St Austell Bay likened to an “untouched paradise” has been blighted by litter.

Silvermine Beach is only accessible by water, meaning most people reach it by boat or paddleboard. However, recent visitors were met with the sight of “an absolute ton of litter” including vape refills, bottles and broken glass, and a single-use barbecue that had been partially buried.

“People have obviously taken the time and effort to being this stuff out here,” said local councillor James Mustoe.

“Why they couldn’t take it back once they were finished with it, God only knows. My friends have removed as much of it as they could carry back on their paddleboards, but have warned that there is still some broken glass left behind.”

Mr Mustoe described Silvermine Beach as “an untouched paradise”, and pleaded: “Please, please, please, whatever beach you visit, leave only your footprints and take your rubbish home!”
