Truro Old Boys will celebrate a decade of charity fundraising on Saturday, June 28.

The group will donate a bench to the people of Truro at Sunny Corner, on Malpas Road beyond Boscawen Park, at 11.30am, followed at noon by a major event at Skinner’s Brewery on Newham Road.

DJ Fonzie will play tunes and host karaoke and Betty Stoggs will sell raffle tickets for a draw at 4.30pm. Truro Male Choir will sing from 5pm.

Hog roast baps will cost £4, with £1 going to the group’s chosen charities: Truro Branch Samaritans, Hendra Hall and Last Chance Hotel Animal Rescue. Skinner’s will give 10% off all drinks all day.

The event will draw to a close at 7pm. Those who can't make the day can donate via an online football card.

The group was formed in 2017 by Truro-born retired army major Graham Humphrey, and brings together men who have been friends for decades, with many going to school together. They meet twice a year for fun, laughter memories and, crucially, fundraising.

So far, these gatherings have raised more than £20,000 for causes including Cornwall Air Ambulance, Man Down, Alzheimer’s Society, British Heart Foundation, the Screech Owl Sanctuary, the Cornish White Gold Foundation, Cornwall RSPCA, Coosebean Fairy Trail in Truro and Esmee Book Corner in Perranporth.

Around 150 local men attended last year’s summer meet, which raised £4,500 to be divided between Children’s Hospice South West, Truro Sea Cadets and Maria's Animal Shelter at Probus, where the men also adopted a donkey named Walter. A donation was also made towards the Truro Civic Awards 2024/25.

“As we reach this big milestone, much work has gone into make this a proper day to remember,” said Mr Humphrey. “The work we do is fantastic and the difference we make is incredible.”
