THE editor and proprietor of the St Ives Times and Echo newspaper, Toni Carver, has died at the aged of 77.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to a property on High Street in St Ives on Friday, November 14 where Toni’s body was located.

The force have said that his death is not being treated as suspicious and that a file was being prepared for HM Coroner.

As owner and editor of the St Ives Times and Echo, Mr Carver continued a family legacy which began in the 1950’s when the Carver’s purchased the St Ives Times before merging it with The Western Echo in 1957.

A statement published by the St Ives Times and Echo newspaper read: "Following the unexpected death of Toni Carver, Editor of the Times and Echo, on Friday, November 14, 2025, we have been asked by the family to let the community and businesses of St Ives know, that they are looking to the future.

"The Times and Echo continues to be open for business and welcomes your valued support and custom.”

Away from his role at the newspaper, Toni also helped with the publication of books and pamphlets which explored the local history of St Ives and the town’s artistic heritage.

A spokesperson for St Ives September Festival added: “Toni will be remembered for his major contribution to life in St Ives and his generous support for many organisations in the town. Condolences and best wishes to all his family and friends at this sad time.”
