NEW multi-million-pound facilities have been officially unveiled at a Newquay secondary school.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was carried out to open the newly refurbished scheme at Treviglas Academy, which has been led by The Roseland Trust over the past five years.

The major developments include a new humanities block, a new build replacing outdated 1980s temporary classrooms, six modern classrooms, reconfigured teaching spaces, and a purpose-built lecture theatre.

The transformation project, which has been funded through the government’s Condition Improvement Fund and trust reserves, has been designed to support flexible, future-focused teaching and learning.

Internal refurbishments include a redesigned library, now a central hub for reading and independent study, upgraded conferencing facilities, improved catering areas and enhanced drama and rehearsal spaces supporting curriculum and extracurricular activity.

Outdoor improvements include a full redevelopment of the Quad, funded via Section 106 contributions from Cornwall Council.

Features include tiered seating, landscaped walkways, planting, and a catering pod.

The redevelopment of the area has been designed as a social, performance, and informal learning space for students and the wider school community.

The ribbon cutting was carried out by Floyd Steadman OBE, deputy lieutenant of Cornwall and former headmaster, in the presence of the CEO of The Roseland Multi Academy Trust, Chris Challis.

Attendees were guided on tours of the school by student leaders, who showcased the Academy’s enhanced learning environments and spoke passionately about their experiences and opportunities available at Treviglas.

Guests visited the new humanities block which replaced the former Elliot Hut classrooms, as well as the refurbished library, lecture theatre, conference room and food tec rooms, before being welcomed into the redeveloped quad area, which was originally the site of the former community school swimming pool.
