WHAT a week it has been for our wonderful town!

It truly was an honour and a joy to stand before so many locals at the Newquay in Bloom awards ceremony. The dedication and creativity on display from our businesses, community groups, and individuals was simply inspiring.

A particular highlight for me was seeing so many young people step up to receive their awards. Their passion for greening our town and taking pride in their environment is a powerful sign of a bright future for Newquay. A huge thank you must go to the tireless Newquay in Bloom volunteers and their Chair, Lesley Friel, for organising such a wonderful event. Their hard work is the bedrock of this success.

Building on this fantastic momentum, I was delighted that at Thursday’s Town Council Environment and Facilities Committee meeting, my colleagues unanimously agreed to support my proposal for Newquay to host the 2026 South West in Bloom awards ceremony. This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our beautiful town to the wider region. I am incredibly excited to work with our local ‘bloomers’, town council officers, and the whole community to ensure the 2026 ceremony is a spectacular event that makes us all proud.

While we’re looking to the future, let’s not forget the younger voices who will help shape it. The consultation for the new play park at Mount Wise Gardens is open until the end of the month. If you have young people in your life, we need their feedback to help us create the best play park possible for Newquay. Please make sure their ideas are heard!

And now for something completely different! This Saturday, prepare for the streets to be taken over by the hugely popular and always amazing Zombiecrawl. I am thrilled to be leading the ‘crawl’ through town alongside Newquay BID and, I hope, many, many of you! It’s a fantastic, fun event that brings a real buzz to the town. So, dust off your best zombie attire and join the horde.

A few squid seem to have turned up last week, one or two being caught from the shore. Rowing Club Singers are off on tour to Poole this weekend.

No band this Saturday in Rowing Club. Thought for the week: “Listen with curiosity, speak with honesty “
