Last week, I undertook my regular monthly walkaround with our BID manager, Mark Warren. These sessions are something I genuinely value as mayor, offering a vital opportunity to meet our town’s business owners directly. It’s a chance to hear first-hand how their summers have been, understand the current landscape, and discuss how we can work together with the BID to plan for the future and meet any challenges head-on. This collaboration feels especially pertinent now, as the Newquay BID goes out to ballot for its next five-year term. Under Mark’s leadership, the BID has gone from strength to strength, consistently putting our town centre and business improvement at the forefront. We see this in the fantastic events delivered in partnership with the town council, from the popular monthly market and the UK’s biggest Zombie Crawl, to the huge, and this year even bigger, Christmas market and light switch-on. The relationship between the BID and the town council has never been more collaborative or productive. It was also a pleasure to welcome Zoe from the BID team on her induction, setting the scene for what we aim to achieve together going forward. A renewed BID term means another five years of dedicated business support, increased footfall, and ambitious collaborative projects that benefit our entire community. So, when your ballot paper arrives, please remember the tangible benefits and vote ‘yes’ for a continued, vibrant future for Newquay.

After a fine weekend and start to the week, it’s turning unsettled after tomorrow with wind and rain moving in. Finally got the rowing done, ladies on Saturday, won by Caradon, and men’s on Sunday, won by Falmouth.

A new fishing boat arrived this week and its gone to Wadebridge for maintenance. Fishing has been generally quiet with the bad weather during the first part of September. This Saturday Play it Cool will be playing in Rowing Club at 9pm.

Thought for the week: ”Small steps today, brings a better tomorrow “
