Wearing my dual hats as your mayor and Cornwall Councillor for Newquay Trenance, I have been relentlessly pursuing the issue of disruptive road closures.
The current three-month gas works in Treloggan are a prime example of a systemic failure in joined up thinking between utility companies. It is incredibly frustrating. These companies seem completely unaware of the cumulative chaos they cause each time they dig up the same piece of roadway. Treloggan has faced a series of closures in recent years, and this latest one has left residents in chaos and severed meaningful public transport. I am working closely with Thomas Beeson and the newly formed Treloggan Bus Association to ease this painful experience.
However, the reality is we need a fundamental shift. We need better coordination between utilities to reduce the impact on residents, stop the wasteful spending of repeated roadworks, and lessen the environmental and economic damage these prolonged closures cause.
On a much brighter note, I hope you will join us for the fantastic festive events we have planned! Newquay Town Council, working with partners like Newquay BID, is proud to bring you the Christmas lights switch-on weekend, complete with entertainment and fireworks. Our new Christmas tree takes pride of place on the Killacourt. The festivities start even earlier this Friday with the magical return of the Lantern Parade through Trenance Valley. It’s a truly wonderful community event—get yourself down there.

After a few weeks of mild weather it will be much colder for few days. It will be turning milder again into the weekend.
There are a few more brown crabs being caught now and market prices are good. When it’s getting toward Christmas they always do. A couple of boats have sold last week and another has been bought. Gig maintenance has started on couple of gigs and ergo training. No band this Saturday but on Sunday afternoon 3pm, Paul Callow and friends with accordion and fiddle will be performing. All Welcome.
