A MAN has been taken to hospital following an attack that reportedly took place in Penzance in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, July 1).

Emergency services were called to the scene where a man in his 40s was found injured. The incident is believed to have taken place at around 2.20am on Market Jew Street.

Officers say they have arrested a man in his 20s from the Penzance area on suspicion of assault and criminal damage. He is currently in police custody.

A police cordon has been put in place at the scene while investigations continue.

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police and paramedics were called to the Market Jew Street area of Penzance at around 2.20am on Tuesday, July 1, following reports of an assault.

“A man aged in his 40s was found injured at the scene and was taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“Officers subsequently arrested a man aged in his 20s and from the Penzance area on suspicion of assault and criminal damage. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

“A police cordon remains in place and the investigation is ongoing.”
