A long-standing independent book shop in Truro is to close this month.
The owner of Just Books, on Pydar Mews, has said business is just no longer viable.
A statement on the shop’s website said: “Just Books will cease trading as a bookshop at the end of February 2023.
“After a long history of selling books in Pydar Mews, the business is no longer viable with ever decreasing sales, due a change in consumer behaviour and low footfall.
“Trade has never returned to pre-covid levels, whilst the current cost of living crisis is now further affecting sales.
“In addition to the economic realities of running a bookshop, my wife who on occasions helped with the shop, now needs greater support from myself due to poor health.
“We will remain a low-key online bookseller on various platforms and we hope to do some pop-up bookselling at events in the future.
“In the meantime the shop may occasionally be found open on some random days and times in February, but unfortunately will mainly remain closed for bookselling. Whilst outside you may find a ‘clearance’ book sale, where most books will be £1 or even free!”
