Truro Lions marked the start of the new Lions Year with the annual presidential handover at Penrose Kitchen.

Out-going president Geoff Kaye praised Truro members and their partners for using their outstanding talents in fundraising and service activities.

The club raised about £22,000 in the last 12 months, through events and initiatives including the Crystal Golf day, Christmas hampers, Easter eggs, used book sales, the Stithians Show and the Turkey/Syria Earthquake Appeal, which raised £4,000 alone.

Approximately 1,000 hours of service were given to Memory Cafes as well as marshalling at Children’s Hospice South West Little Harbour events.

Geoff thanked his wife, Norma, and all members, partners and friends for their efforts and support throughout the year.

He then handed over the president’s chain of office to his vice-president Richard Moore, wishing him and his partner Beryl Devany all the very best for their year. Richard presented a rose to Norma, and Geoff in turn gave an orchid to Beryl.

Taking the lead, Richard welcomed all present, especially wives of past Lions and those not well enough to attend, before handing the vice-president’s chain to Mike Kalis. Finally, he thanked Lion Bill Rudd for producing the new 2023/24 directory, and Penrose Kitchen for the lovely Sunday lunch.
