An overflowing dog waste bin has been emptied following a desperate plea to theVoice Newspaper

Shaun Harding contacted the Voice to complain about the bin at the recreation field near Century Close in Carclaze.

“The field is being used by local dog walkers and as a kids’ playground,” he said. “The dog poo bin is full and has been like that for months. No one is attending to it. It stinks and it’s a health risk.

“I would empty it myself, given the right equipment and a place to put the contents, but the bin is locked and no one wants to take responsibility for it.”

The bin is part of a development owned by Wainhomes.

A call to Wainhomes’ press office resulted in the bin being emptied.

“The development dates back some 20 years, and this was quite simply an oversight on the part of our landscape management contractor,” said a spokesman.

A Cornwall Council spokesperson confirmed that the council does not take responsibility for waste bins on private developments.

“Cornwall Council provides a range of bins for people to dispose of litter and dog waste on council-managed or -owned land,” she explained.

“Bins provided by Cornwall Council have a label which features the council logo, a location reference and details on how to report a damaged or full bin. The bin on Century Close, Carclaze, is not owned or emptied by Cornwall Council.”
