The Jubilee Lamp in the village square of Probus has been reinstalled after repair work.
To mark the occasion Reverend Paul Salaman of Probus Parish Church conducted a blessing to the newly-restored lamp in front of a small gathering on Sunday morning. The blessing was followed by the crowd appropriately singing “Shine A Light”.
Probus Parish Council chairman Nicholas Gillard also gave a short speech in which he thanked those who have helped get the lamp back working again. The lamp needed specialist repairs after it was severely damaged by a reversing lorry back in August 2022.
The lamp, which stood for 126 years before the incident last year occurred, commemorates the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897.
There were hopes that the repairs of the Jubilee Lamp would be completed in time for Probus Fun Week back in August, but further damage was discovered to the metal base which halted the reinstallation process.
The first stage of reinstalling the lamp began a few of weeks ago when work took place to secure the main stem of the lamp, preparing the electrical connection and replacing the granite plinth.
The electricity supply has been redesigned to make access easier and to control the lamp with a photocell switch.
After this work was completed, the replacement of the globe, shade and reconnection of the lamp took place.
