THE job centre in Newquay is seeing vacancies across almost every sector, including a strong range of apprenticeship opportunities.
Newquay Jobcentre in East Street has 591 jobs advertised across the Newquay, St Austell and Truro areas through Find a Job, giving local residents a wide choice of opportunities to move into work or change career.
The variety of roles available is “significant” ranging from research positions to retail, and from headteachers to support workers.
Newquay Jobcentre has reported a series of recent successes after helping several long‑term unemployed residents with health conditions move closer to the workplace and into new opportunities.
A particular success is the 50+ age group, where there is an eight per cent decrease of unemployment in the St Austell and Newquay area.
One Newquay resident, who had been out of work long-term due to health issues, was supported by her pathways work coach to access additional guidance and funding for a laptop.
This enabled her to take part in an NHS Sector Work Academy Programme. The programme helped boost her confidence and improve her readiness for employment. She has now secured an administration apprenticeship at a local school and is due to start next month.
Newquay Jobcentre celebrated a major success following a recruitment event held on Tuesday, February 3, where local employers met jobseekers to fill a wide range of vacancies across the Newquay area.
Employers from Parkdean Newquay, Parkdean Crantock and Trevella Holiday Parks attended, offering roles in cleaning, maintenance, portering, food and beverage services and supervisory positions. All vacancies included training, flexible shift patterns and access to reliable transport routes.
Additional opportunities were also available in production roles, with several customers expected to begin training in the coming weeks. Green Light provided information on support worker positions, giving jobseekers a pathway into employment and training within the Adult Social Care sector.
Twenty two customers had been offered employment by the end of the event, with next steps arranged to visit the holiday parks or begin training for production and care roles.
The morning provided an invaluable opportunity for jobseekers to attend multiple interviews with employers actively looking to recruit. Employers praised the confidence and preparation of the candidates they met.
Employer adviser Natalie, who organised the event, said that delivering a tailored service for local employers is key to meeting recruitment needs effectively.
Judith May from Newquay Jobcentre said: “With spring just around the corner, we’re ready to support even more jobseekers and local employers.
“We’re working closely with Parkdean Holiday Park, Trevella and many other businesses to help fill their vacancies, and we’ve set up sector‑based Work Academy Programmes for Corby Construction and Set Square.”
