Will Ashworth, founder and executive director, Watergate Bay Hotel, said: “Storm Goretti caused significant damage to Watergate Bay’s ice rink marquee overnight, and as a result, the rink has had to close a few days earlier than planned.
“We’re very relieved that no one was hurt and that our guests and team remained safe throughout the storm.
“We are now in the process of safely dismantling the rink, and we’re reviewing ice rink bookings. All impacted guests will be contacted directly.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to our teams, who worked with great care in extremely challenging conditions.
“While it’s disappointing to end a little earlier than expected, the ice rink has meant a great deal to our guests and the local community this winter. It’s been a joyful and memorable experience for so many people, and we’re very grateful to our team, partners and guests for their support throughout.”
A spokesperson for the Watergate Bay Hotel added: “Storm Goretti has caused considerable damage to the ice rink marquee at Watergate Bay. It will be closed for the rest of the season. Anyone who has a booking we will contact them directly.”
