A FITNESS instructor has proved it is never too late to pursue a new career path.
Natasha Cox has made the life-changing decision to join the Royal Air Force as a survival equipment technician at RAF St Mawgan at the age of 46.
Her work supports the Defence SERE Training Organisation by ensuring aircrew are equipped with critical survival equipment, including life rafts, personal survival packs and locator beacons, all maintained to the highest standards.
Transitioning to military life was no small feat for Natasha. The application process took two and a half years, which included a year dedicated to earning additional GCSEs to qualify for her role.
Natasha served as senior cadet, living alongside over 60 teenagers for 10 weeks during basic training at RAF Halton. She excelled, earning four trophies and an award at Halton and another at RAF Cosford during phase two training despite the demanding environment.
Natasha said: “I wanted to show my family that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.
“The process was challenging and there were times I thought about giving up. But with determination, I made it through and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.”
A spokesperson for RAF St Mawgan said: “From fitness instructor to RAF Survival equipment technician it is never too late to change direction.
“Natasha’s journey, which has been inspired by her daughter’s encouragement, stands as a powerful reminder that age should never be a barrier to ambition.
“Now, weeks into her RAF career, Natasha is embracing every opportunity and is looking ahead to future deployments and new experiences.
“With her husband, himself a former serviceman, and two teenage children cheering her on, Natasha’s story highlights the value of perseverance and the power of starting over.”
