A devoted family man from Truro killed himself two days before Christmas when he was worried by the cost of living crisis.
Ryan Maker had married his childhood sweetheart Kerri-Anne and had four children and he was passionate about his family and football; an inquest was told.
He had been out drinking with football pals the night before he was found dead at his home in the village of Grampound Road, near Truro.
Ryan, who had trials with Spurs as a teenager, had a 'silly' row with Kerri-Anne after his father Pete drove him home from the Christmas booze up.
Teaching assistant Kerri-Anne went to her mother's house for the night with the children and Pete stayed with his son until around 11.30pm but had no inclination what his son would later do.
Ryan sent text messages to his oldest child saying 'look after everyone' with a kiss.
The next morning the 37-year-old plant fleet coordinator was found hanged from a bedroom door.
He was just over one-and-a-half times the drink drive limit. A post mortem said he died from asphyxia with alcohol intoxication a contributory factor.
The inquest at Cornwall Coroners’ Court in Truro heard Ryan was annoyed Kerri-Anne had returned home without him from the drinks party but his dad said he had been talking 'gibberish' when he drove him home.
Assistant coroner Emma Hillson said Ryan felt isolated working from home, was experiencing some marital issues which they were working through and planning for the future and had some financial worries about the cost of living.
But she said he took deliberate steps to end his life and recorded a suicide conclusion.
A friend set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Ryan’s widow which has raised £7,740 so far and remains open for donations at https://www.gofundme.com/f/ryan-maker.
The page says: “Ryan Maker, 37. With his childhood sweetheart for 19 years, Kerri-Anne, a teaching assistant at Grampound Road Primary School and married for 10 years.
“Ryan had lived in Grampound Road all of his life. He played football for Grampound FC and coached Trispen to an outstanding season. More recently Ryan coached the Truro U7s football team and set up the hugely successful Grampound Road under-nines and under-10 teams.
“Most weekends would see Ryan ferrying players around the county and offering words of encouragement. Ryan worked as the plant and fleet coordinator for Cormac.
“On Friday 23rd of December Ryan unexpectedly passed away. He leaves behind Kerri-Anne and their children.
“Ryan was a keen, caring member of our village community. He was always one of the first to man a bbq at a school event and help wherever he was needed.
“Ryan’s friends and community want to raise £4,000 to help Kerri-Anne and her children. Please donate whatever you can to help this very deserving family.”
