99p Films, a revolutionary community interest cinema, born out of Falmouth University, has announced its inaugural Autumn Film Series.

Called 99p Films because 99p from each ticket sold goes directly to the filmmaker, the young team behind the venture has built this unique licencing model, instantly becoming a positive disruptor in the film industry.

The 99p Films team aims to create a transformative experience by incorporating mindful breathing at the start of an event, facilitating engaging discussions throughout the session, culminating with a communal feast. This approach hopes to connects people, raises awareness about social and environmental issues and inspires direct action for a better future.

The 99p Films mission is not only to inspire and provide a wholesome evening for audiences, but to benefit several stakeholders including filmmakers, students, local farmers, chefs, wellness practitioners and others all using their skills to cultivate positive change.

In collaboration with Falmouth Creates, an umbrella support programme from Falmouth Business Improvement District (BID), 99p Films is creating its inaugural series of documentary film showings in and around the port this Autumn.

Bringing audiences together through film, food, and discussion, each event takes place in or around Falmouth and offers a space to reflect, connect, and share a meal. The showings will happen across venues including The Cornish Bank, the Princess Pavilions and Flushing Sailing Club.

Alex Fish, founder of 99p Films, said: “Our 99p Films Autumn Series screenings are designed as more than just film nights,” says Alex Fish, founder of 99p Films. Each screening is a chance to explore subjects that matter, whether that is pollinators, sustainable fashion, life in Palestine, or traditional sailing.

“But it is not only about what we watch. The breathing at the start, the conversation afterwards, and the shared meal at the end turn the evening into something much richer. It is about creating space for curiosity, care, and community in the Falmouth area.”

Falmouth BID Manager Keren Cooksey said: “Falmouth Creates came from the need for support and collaboration from several grass roots events and festivals that were simultaneously born out of the end of COVID.

“It’s therefore really satisfying to support a new, committed film event series across the coming months, and to help the passionate and dedicated 99p Films team to bring their unique experience to a wider audience from across the port and beyond.”
