A social cinema screening of the latest documentary by Cornwall Climate Care is taking place at various Cornish venues in February and March.

Organised by 99p Films, the event will show the new film, Beyond Bricks, which takes a deeper look at the housing crisis in Cornwall.

All screenings include a delicious shared feast, made from local seasonal produce and prepared by talented chefs specialising in a range of cuisines, from Syrian recipes to South Indian flavours.

Following the film screening, we open up the room to an audience-led discussion with the chance to create community connections and take meaningful action, through 99p Films’ model: Breathe, watch, discuss and eat.

Upcoming screenings taking place in Cornwall include:

  • Thursday, February 12 – The Gardeners’ House, Penzance
  • Friday, February 13 – Eco Park, Porthtowan
  • Thursday, February 19 – The Ladder, Redruth
  • Sunday, February 22 – Princess Pavilion, Falmouth
  • Saturday, February 28 – The Old Cattle Market, Helston
  • Thursday, March 19 – Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery, Truro

Beyond Bricks investigates the balancing act needed to create hundreds of thousands of new homes in the UK without exacerbating the climate and ecological crises.

This is a particularly sensitive issue in Cornwall, where thousands of people are on the housing register while huge numbers of houses lie empty.

Presented by Cornish builder Andy Carr, Beyond Bricks looks at everything from high-tech housing solutions to people building with novel, climate-friendly materials; rethinking ‘waste’ and ensuring that our future homes also leave space for nature.
