A public engagement event on the 20mph proposals for Truro is to be held in Truro Methodist Church café on Saturday, July 1 from 10am until noon.

Cornwall Council intends to implement a 20mph speed limit on most residential streets within Truro and surrounding villages that are part of the Truro & Roseland Community Network Area.

They are currently holding a consultation which closes on July 6.

The reduced speed limit is intended to make a major contribution towards improving road safety, especially for vulnerable road users, and contribute towards the council’s Vision Zero goal – the prevention of all fatal and serious injuries on the county road network.

It is also hoped it will reduce noise and air pollution, by removing the need for harsh braking or acceleration; and encourage a transition towards walking, cycling or public transport, particularly for local journeys, resulting in increased journey time reliability, healthier communities, more liveable streets and a greater use of local community facilities, which will be beneficial to the local economy.

It is also proposed to amend the existing carriageway layout in Probus with a priority give-way at the western approach, along with some sheltered parking and raised kerb areas, supported by a short section of double yellow lines.

The width of the carriageway will be physically reduced with an aim of slowing vehicle speeds and improving safety for vulnerable road users.
